Fans were left disappointed and stranded after organisers of New York's The Hudson Project music festival cancelled Sunday's (13Jul14) performances due to bad weather.

The annual festival in Saugerties kicked off on Friday (11Jul14), but by Sunday afternoon, heavy rain hit the site and local officials suspended all activities until further notice.

However, around 8pm local time, organisers decided to call the festival off, axing sets by Bassnectar, Capital Cities, and Action Bronson.

A post from The Hudson Project's official Twitter.com account reads, "We regret to announce that we are canceling the remaining performances this evening due to safety concerns associated with inclement weather."

DJ Bassnectar was slated to be the closing act on Sunday night, and he shared his frustration with fans on Twitter.

He wrote,"Holy F**k! Police just announced Hudson is officially postponed for rain and cannot resume F**King Heartbroken New York

"All Hudson Project Bass Heads: we are So Bummed never been rained out before! Mother Nature do what She wanna do.

"I really do not cancel shows for any reason. I never have. Not once. It's killing me to not come thru 4 everyone @hudson_project I love you."
