Fawcett's Family Receives Academy Apology

Academy Awards bosses have officially apologised to Farrah Fawcett's family for leaving the late actress out of a tribute at the recent ceremony (07Mar10).

The Charlie's Angels star, who lost her battle with cancer last year (09), was not included in the annual In Memoriam list at the show, which honours stars who have died in the last 12 months.

The snub sparked outrage, with Fawcett's longtime lover Ryan O'Neal announcing plans to write a letter to Oscars bosses demanding an explanation, and his daughter Tatum O'Neal admitting she was "deeply saddened" by the move.

Bruce Davis, the executive director of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, subsequently defended the decision to leave Fawcett out of the tribute, calling it the "single most troubling element of the Oscar show every year."

And now he has officially apologised for the snub. Davis says, "There's nothing you can say to people, particularly to family members, within a day or two of the show that helps at all. They tend to be surprised and hurt, and we understand that and we're sorry for it."

Then honor her during the next Oscar ceremony. Put her first and for more than a split second showing. You owe this to her. No actor should ever be left out, ever. Find a way to fund it, even if your show goes into overtime. Cut one of those expensive parties or two. She paid her dues all across the board. My support to her family and longtime companion. Shame on you Oscar bosses! Mt. Vernon, VA.

Well, i am glad they apoligized. but the damage is done. they will not re broadcast it, they will not do a special on her to make up for it. i was one of her millions of fans. this was a down right disrespect of her to be viewed in front of millions of people, who i did not know for the most part. i am glad sandra bullock and jeff bridges won. i am sure her mom and his dad in heaven watched as they received there oscar.they both r hard working actors and they deserved them. Also, Farrah worked hard and struggled with her anal cancer and to broadcast her problem was a great relief to many people. she was the best......Lee
