Far From A Shambles At Celebrity Soccer Matchby Contributor | 22 May 2007
Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty taught a few celebrities a lesson or two at this year's Soccer Six tournament in aid of the Samaritans.
The musician was in demand by the watching photographers who also could not wait to get a picture of Doherty's celebrity fan and girlfriend Kate Moss.
Other celebrities who took part included Johnny Borrell from Razorlight and Donnie Tourette from Towers of London as well as members of Blue, Eton Road and Goldie Lookin Chain.
Actor Danny Dyer and pop star Bryan McFadden were also in attendance along with ex-pros Ian Rush, Lee Sharpe and Paul Gascoigne.
Kate Redway from the Samaritans said the football tournament provided the perfect awareness event for the charity's target group.
"Suicide is still the leading cause of death for men under 35 and it is vital that young men know that there is always somewhere to turn when they are feeling low," she said.
"Soccer Six is the perfect means of reaching a target group and raising awareness that Samaritans is available 24 hours a day for completely confidential emotional support."
Doherty managed to score the winner against X-Factor contestants Eton Road in a 1-0 win for his band's team. He promptly took a lap of honour with the winning trophy.
