Lovers of the post-punk British band have taken to twitter to remember the singer, who committed suicide on May 18 1980 at the age of 23.
Joy Division has become a Top 10 trend on the social networking site, where moving tributes to the legendary frontman are flooding in.
The 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' singer - who suffered from epilepsy and depression - hanged himself in 1980 at his Macclesfield home.
In 1995 Ian's widow, Deborah Curtis, published an biography, 'Touching From A Distance: Ian Curtis and Joy Division'. The late singer's life has been adapted into two films, '24 Hour Party People' (2002) and 'Control' (2007).
