Fans End 33-Year Wait To Trade-in The Who Tickets

Some dedicated, Rhode Island-based fans of The Who were rewarded for their loyalty today when they traded in their old tickets for a pair to the band's forthcoming concert at the Dunkin' Donuts Centre in Providence next February.

The tickets they traded in were initially for a show due to be held in Rhode Island's state capital in 1979, however the show was cancelled by then Providence mayor Buddy Cianci due to safety concerns. The concerns stemmed from a gig the band performed in Cincinnati, Ohio where eleven people died in a stampede prior to the show.

Now the wait is over, the 10 patient fans were able to finally swap their old passes for new tickets to see the Brit group's first show in the state of Rhode Island since the 1970s.

Unfortunately for the fans, whilst the tickets were still at 1979 prices, the food and drinks inside the venue wont have their price pushed back to '79 prices, now with a single beer at concerts normally averaging about $5 - a price that in the would've set fans back approximately a single dollar.

The tickets from the cancelled 1979 show have been donated by the General Manager of the DDC, Larry Lepore, and will be auctioned off in the near future to hopefully raise funds for the Special Olympics of Rhode Island.
