Example - Example Sought Therapy After Finding Fame

British rapper Example sought the help of a therapist at the start of his career after his dad broke down in tears upon learning of his son's hard-partying ways.
The musician, born Elliot John Gleave, admits fame "went to his head" after the release of his album Won't Go Quietly in 2010, but it wasn't until his father confronted him about his wild lifestyle that he realised it was time to change his ways.
He tells Britain's The Sun, "My mum and dad found out some of the s**t I was doing a few years back and, I'm not going to lie, were really disappointed. We are a close family and I really look up to my dad. To see the disappointment in his eyes, that's hard. When he found out I was behaving in a certain way, and the people I was hanging with, he wasn't happy. I saw him cry. There is nothing worse... I just thought to myself, 'I don't want to let my mum and dad down any more...'
"You know what happens to people in the music industry. I was a b**tard. It all went to my head. But I came out of that... knowing that wasn't the real me - and went to therapy."
The Stay Awake hitmaker insists he now feels "the happiest I have ever been" after working out his problems with a professional.
He adds, "The therapy thing was so good because I could speak to someone who wasn't going to lick my a**e because I was famous. Your bandmates tell you what you want to hear because you are the boss. My manager will give me advice but wants to keep me happy. But I came out of therapy thinking, 'Elliot, you were an absolute s**t' and now I feel like the old Elliot again... It sounds ridiculous but this is the happiest I have ever been."
