Gucci's former creative director Frida Giannini wore a Valentino wedding dress on her big day.

The 42-year-old designer walked down the isle in a lavish ceremony on Friday night (05.06.2015) in Rome and controversially left Gucci out of the picture, when the fashionista opted for a gown created by their rivals.

Valentino displayed a sketch of the flowing, sheer dress on its Instagram account on Saturday (06.06.2015).

Giannini married the former Gucci CEO Patrizio di Marco, in a dress specially made for her by her friends and head designers at Valentino, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli.

They also created the dress for the couple's daughter Greta.

The Gucci power couple announced last year that they were departing together and have not yet revealed where they will be taking their expertise.

Valentino Fashion Group successes saw revenues sore by 36 per cent last year, though half of all sales came from accessories.

Their Rockstud shoes - the famous studded stiletto - have continually sold out since their launch in 2010.
