Eric Cantona Plays At Stone Roses Gig In Lyon, France
Football legend turned actor Eric Cantona appeared on-stage at a Stone Roses concert in Lyon, France on Monday evening (June 25, 2012). The Frenchman sang with Justice Tonight - the Hillsborough campaign band consisting of former Clash guitarist Mick Jones - who were the support act for the Manchester band, reports BBC News.
The band campaign for justice for the families of the 96 killed following the Hillsborough football disaster in 1989. On Monday, the band - also featuring The Farm singer Peter Wylie - invited Cantona up on-stage to sing the Clash hits 'Rock the Casbah' and 'Should I Stay or Should I Go'. Sheila Coleman, of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign said, "We're thrilled by Cantona's support. Ian Brown from the Stone Roses is also a big supporter and the campaign is going from strength to strength. It shows the justice issue transcends any city or football rivalries". In fact, Roses' frontman Brown is a huge Manchester United fan, and often cites Eric Cantona amongst his favourite players. The reformed group play three huge hometown shows at Heaton Park on Friday (June 29, 2012), Saturday and Sunday.
The group's reunion tour hasn't been without controversy though, with drummer Reni seemingly walking off-stage during a concert in Amsterdam. Fans had been expecting the band's usual set closer 'I Am the Resurrection' though were left disappointed.
