Emmy Nominations Broadcast Nets Make A Comeback
The day got off to a particularly good start for broadcast television with the 5 30 a.m. PT unveiling of this year's Emmy nominations. After years of being dominated by the likes of HBO and Showtime, the broadcast networks roared back -- with Fox's Glee on its own nabbing 19 nominations, NBC's 30 Rock scoring 15 and ABC's Modern Family grabbing 14. Both Glee and Modern Family made their debut during the past season. Another freshman series, CBS's The Good Wife , picked up nine nominations. The announcements were read off by Community star Joel McHale and Modern Family 's Sofia Vergara, who herself won a nomination for best supporting actress. To be sure, cable still made its impressive mark, with HBO's Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks-produced The Pacific miniseries showered with 24 -- count 'em, 24 -- nominations. HBO came away with a total of 101 nods, by far the most for any network. ABC came in second with 63 nominations, while Showtime placed third with 23. Academy voters also gave The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien four nominations, while ignoring The Tonight Show with Jay Leno .
