Emma Watson's Inspiring Weather

Emma Watson believes the miserable British weather helps inspire designers.

The 'Harry Potter' actress - who is currently living in the US as she studies at Brown University - says the lack of sunshine means designers want to use bright colours and are more innovative with their creations.

She told WWD: "It's so funny because now that I'm in America, I'm more able to define it. Before I didn't have an awareness of another style. I think British style has to do with the weather. We have terrible weather. It's very gray and drizzly so we need things to cheer us up. And I think that leads to a lot of creativity and colour, and I think that's why our designers are so innovative. We have great vintage and we love to mix and match: high street and high fashion, vintage...and I think that really defines it as well."

While many British designers use the rain as their inspiration, Emma recently revealed her own clothing range was based around summer outfits she would wear.

The 20-year-old beauty - who helped create clothes for ethical label People Tree - said: "I went through my summer wardrobe and thought, 'If I filtered this so that it was just the very basics, what would I want to keep?' The answer was cotton vests, easy T-shirt dresses, nice scarves to accessorise with and some lovely linen pieces. For the boys' range I've done hoodies, which I know they'll love. The clothes are very British, which is why we shot the campaign in an English country garden - it's all very strawberries and cream and tennis."
