Emma Stone Suffered 'Immobilising' Panic Attacks
Stone explained, "I was just kind of immobilised by it. I didn't want to go to my friends' houses or hang out with anybody, and nobody really understood". Therapy helped to combat the attacks, though comic acting also enabled the actress to eventually gain confidence and overcome her fears. The 23-year-old star said, "[Being on stage] gave me a sense of purpose. I wanted to make people laugh. Comedy was my sport. It taught me how to roll with the punches. Failure is the exact same as success when it comes to comedy, because it just keeps coming. It never stops". The star revealed how she still uses acting to stop the panic attacks returning, and turned to baking while filming the latest superhero blockbuster, saying, "I think I felt really out of control of my surroundings. I was just baking all the time. It seemed like it made me feel, if I put these in, I'll know what the outcome is".
Stone first caught Hollywood's attention in 2009's 'Zombieland', before landing a prominent role in 'Easy A', and going on to star opposite Ryan Gosling in 'Crazy Stupid Love'. Later this year, she'll star in the crime-drama 'Gangster Squad, with three times Oscar winner SEAN PENN.
