Emily Watson On Anna Karenina, "Keira Was Delightful"
Emily Watson has spoken to reporters about her appearance in JOE WRIGHT's cinema-version of Anna Karenina, in which she stars alongside Jude Law and Keira Knightley. Although she only shares one screen with Keira, Emily has said that she was "absolutely delightful."
Emily is currently appearing in cinemas as part of the cast of War Horse, Steven Spielberg's latest blockbuster and according to the Press Association, enjoyed playing a character with a different side. She told reporters "It's a little role - small but pivotal. I play Countess Lidia, who is a right royal b****. It was fun to play." She also drew attention to the differences between working on Anna Karenina and Spielberg's set for War Horse, commenting "There's a real sense of company on Joe's set. He has music going, he's very chatty and friendly. The whole piece is set in a theatre and it had a real sense of theatre troupe about it." Set for release this year (2012), Anna Karenina also features Kelly MacDonald, Matthew MacFadyen and Olivia Williams.
At last night's Screen Actors Guild Awards, Emily Watson lost out to Kate Winslet in the 'Outstanding Performance By A Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries. Watson had been nominated for her performance as Janet Leach in Appropriate Adult. The two-part feature dealt with the story of the serial killers Fred and Rosemary West and the professionals involved in bringing them to justice. Kate Winslet took the award home, though, for her title role in Mildred Pierce.
