Emeli Sande - Emeli Sande Changed Her Name To Avoid Adele Comparisons
Emeli Sande changed her name when she launched her music career because she wanted to avoid comparisons to fellow British singer Adele.
The Scottish star was born Adele Emeli Sande, but she decided to reinvent herself so she wouldn't share a moniker with her hugely successful namesake.
She tells the Chicago Sun-Times, "I thought having the same name as one of the biggest sellers in the past decade was not a good way to set yourself up."
Sande recently triumphed over the other Adele when she was named the bestselling album artist in Britain of 2012, overtaking the Rolling In The Deep star's 21 with her debut record Our Version Of Events.
