Sir Elton John - Elton John Loses Legal Battle With British Newspaper

10 October 2012

The British singer sued The Times alleging two articles printed in the newspaper in June (12) were "severely damaging" to his reputation by suggesting an accountant who previously worked for the star had been linked to tax avoidance.

Editors at the publication published a correction, acknowledging the accountant mentioned in the piece had never been employed by the superstar, as well as a second clarification stating the accountant's company had not been involved in such a scheme.

The Rocket Man hitmaker has now lost his fight for damages after a judge at London's High Court rejected his libel claim on Wednesday (10Oct12).

Judge Mr Justice Tugendhat ruled, "The conclusion I have reached is that the words complained of are not capable of bearing the meaning attributed to them by the claimant or any other defamatory meaning."
