Elton John Braves Rain For Magic Show

Sir Elton John praised his fans for braving The Rain at Magic Summer Live in Hertfordshire yesterday (17.07.11), rewarding them with a hit-laden set.

Although he arrived on stage half an hour later than advertised, the music legend made up for it by immediately launching into 'Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)' and vowing to take the concertgoers' minds off the "miserable weather".

He said: "Thank you for coming out in this miserable weather and supporting this event. We're going to try to cheer you up."

Accompanied by his five-piece band, four backing vocalists and 2Cellos duo Luka Sulic and Stjepan Haand, the singer performed a string of his best known hits including 'Madman Across The Water', 'Tiny Dancer', 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', 'Sacrifice', 'Rocket Man' and 'I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues'.

After a brief interlude of songs from his most recent record, the Leon Russell collaboration 'The Union', which peaked at number three on the US Billboard chart, Elton returned to the classics including ' Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word', Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', 'Are You Ready For Love?' and 'Benny And The Jets'.

Other acts to perform during the day long event at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, East England, included Lighthouse Family, Rumer, The Overtones, The Pierces and Wonderland.

Meanwhile Scissor Sisters dedicated one of their songs to a member of the audience at Lovebox yesterday as part of a special partnership with Elton and his charity, the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

During the festival at Victoria Park in East London, a series of short films by production company Superglue were played showing the number to text to win the shoutout with Elton previously commenting: "It's fantastic that Scissor Sisters are supporting our work. Like us, they want to make the world AIDS - free. With this campaign, they can also show their support and maybe even have a unique memory from the show!"
