Elizabeth Taylor's First Love William Dies
William D. Pawley, JR, Elizabeth Taylor's first true love, has died in Florida.
The 92 year old was the son of the former U.S. ambassador to Brazil and Peru, William Pawley.
Born in Georgia in 1920, he was 28 when he began romancing a teenage Taylor after a chance vacation meeting in Miami Beach.
The couple announced its engagement in June, 1949, but the relationship was over later that year and the actress had returned the diamond ring he had given her.
Taylor married Nicky Hilton a year later.
Pawley, Jr. died on 10 July (12), according to reports. No further details about his death have been disclosed.
