Elizabeth Olsen confirms Godzilla role

Elizabeth Olsen has confirmed she is to star in the new 'Godzilla' movie.

The 23-year-old actress has signed up for the Warner Bros' reboot of the monster franchise and she has promised fans the film will be returning to its' original dark Japanese roots as opposed to the 1998 film which starred Matthew Broderick.

Elizabeth revealed she is going to be in the movie at the BAFTA Awards at London's Royal Opera House on Sunday night (10.02.13).

When quizzed on whether she had been cast and asked and how the new movie will differ from the last one, she told BANG Showbiz: ''It's definitely going to be different. It's not light-hearted fare. It's going back to its roots and its core - the reason why the Japanese made it, kind of.''

Elizabeth - the younger sister of actresses and fashion designers Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen - was thrilled to be at the BAFTAs and in the UK capital for such a special night.

The 'Martha Marcy May Marlene' star - who was nominated for the EE Rising Star Award - said: ''It's just really cool to be part of this British tradition. It's great to be here.''

'Man of Steel' actor Henry Cavill, 'X-Men: First Class' star Caleb Landry Jones and 'Killing Them Softly' actor Scoot McNairy are all in contention for the lead role in 'Godzilla'.

The famous screen monster - a giant reptile created by nuclear radiation - originated in Japanese cinema in the 1950s and has featured in several movies.

The new 'Godzilla' film is scheduled to appear in cinemas in 2014.
