Elizabeth Movie Blasted By Historians
The sequel to 1998 hit ELIZABETH I has been blasted by historians, insisting the filmmakers let dramatic license get in the way of historical evidence.
In the forthcoming movie Elizabeth The Golden Age, it claims Elizabeth, once again played by Cate Blanchett, loved Clive Owen's Sir Walter Raleigh from afar and allowed one of her ladies-in-waiting to seduce her so she could be close to him.
The film's writer William Nicholson says the love triangle was "highly likely, sophisticated and subtle."
But historians have hit back at the claims, insisting there is no evidence that Elizabeth was attracted to Raleigh.
Elizabeth And Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens author Jane Dunn says, "This is artistic license."
