Elijah Wood - Elijah Wood Smokes 'Too Many' Cigarettes
Elijah Wood, the American actor best known for his role in the 'Lord of the Rings' movies, admits he smokes too many cigarettes in order to cope with stress. Elijah Wood is set to star in the black comedy 'Wilfred', which premieres on the FX channel tonight (23rd June 2011).
Wood stars as 'Ryan' in the new comedy, a young man who forms a friendship with his neighbour's dog 'Wilfred'. Although everyone else considers Wilfred to be a regular domestic pet, Ryan sees him as an Australian man in a dog suit. Wood's character uses his 'friend' as a coping mechanism to deal with problems and stress, something the Hollywood actor says he can relate to, telling Collider.com, "We all deal with a certain amount of stress, on a day-to-day basis. I probably smoke too many cigarettes, which isn't a very good thing. I don't have any extraordinary coping mechanism. I certainly don't talk to a dog". Based on the hit Australian comedy of the same name, 'Wilfred' has been adapted for American audiences by the 'Family Guy' veteran David Zuckerman. Wood admits he rarely gets offered television roles, but jumped at the chance to join the comedy, saying, "I loved it and it blew my mind. It was unlike anything I've read or seen on television. A perfect extreme in funny, but also sort of cerebral and strange and difficult to describe, which I think is always a good thing".
Elijah Wood is currently filming Peter Jackson's highly anticipated 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey', where he reprises his role as 'Frodo'.
