German Musician Dieter Moebius Has Passed Away, Aged 71.
The pioneering star's former bandmate Michael Rother took to Facebook.com to share the news that Moebius died on Monday (20Jul15).
In a post on the social networking site, he writes, "Very sad news today for all friends of Dieter Moebius and his unique music. Our friend, neighbour and collaborator passed away this morning, July 20th 2015. He will be missed dearly by all of us. Our thoughts go out to his wife, Irene. RIP, Dieter (Mobi)."
Moebius kicked off his music career in 1969 when he co-founded Kluster, later known as Cluster, a German experimental musical group which laid the foundations for contemporary electronic music.
The musician later formed Harmonia, a supergroup with Cluster bandmate Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Rother, the star of Neu!, and British musician Brian Eno.
Top music producer Paul Epworth paid tribute to the star on Twitter.com, writing, "Terribly sad to hear of the passing of Dieter Moebius. One of the true... visionaries."
