Efron Lands Drug Movie Role
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL star ZAC EFRON is set to shed his clean-cut image with a controversial new movie role - playing a drug runner in an upcoming crime thriller.
The actor is preparing to star in and produce a remake of Swedish drama Snabba Cash, which translates as Easy Money.
The film is based on a 2006 novel by Jens Lapidus and tells three interwoven stories about friends who become involved with drugs and organised crime.
Efron will play a young taxi driver who is tempted into cocaine smuggling by the prospect of making his fortune.
The rights to the remake were snapped up by executives at Hollywood studio Warner Bros, who recently signed a two-year producing deal with Efron.
