Eddie Palmieri Upset By Grammy Shake-up

Nine-time Grammy Award winner Eddie Palmieri has voiced his anger over the decision to slim down the annual ceremony by cutting more than 30 prizes.
Organisers of the legendary music event have announced plans to shed a number of honours, including awards for Latin jazz, Hawaiian and Native American music, and merge a number of categories.
But the shake-up has upset some Latin stars, including Puerto Rican musician Palmieri, who has won handfuls of Grammys over the years, including the first ever Best Latin Recording trophy back in 1974.
At a Monday (11Apr11) meeting of members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the group behind the Grammys, in New York, Palmieri said, "I was very instrumental in getting the Latin jazz category into the awards and its elimination is very upsetting to me."
Grammy-nominated drummer Bobby Sanabria also attended the meeting and voiced concerns that the move will ostracise Latin musicians from mainstream music: "The fact that we have less options now for us to be represented and that there are more Latinos in this country strikes me very much as cultural insensitivity.
"The Grammys were the last stop for us as marginalised artists and marginalised forms of American music to get some recognition on the same level as (artists like) Usher and Lady Gaga."
Sanabria has also vowed to continue fighting the plan, adding, "This is not over."
