Eddie Izzard Set To Join Munsters Remake

Eddie Izzard is set to join a remake of 'The Munsters'.

The 50-year-old comedian is being lined up to play elderly vampire Grandpa Munster - a role made famous by Al Lewis - in 'Mockingbird Lane', a reboot of the 1960s US TV show.

Eddie also looks set to produce the series for NBC, which has been given its title in reference to the fictional family's address at 1313 Mockingbird Lane, with 'Pushing Daisies' creator Bryan Fuller set to pen The Script and 'X-Men' director Bryan Singer helming the project.

The original sitcom series aired from 1964 until 1966 and focused on a supernatural family headed by Herman Munster (Fred Gwynne), who was based on the character of Frankenstein's monster.

Grandpa is a 300-year-old lady-loving vampire with the ability to transform himself into various other creatures such as a wolf and a bat.

Grandpa was also known as Sam Dracula and is the father of Herman's wife Lily Munster - who was played by Yvonne De Carlo.

All the family members were based on classic movie monsters, such as Herman and Lily's son Eddie Munster, who was a werewolf.
