E.l. James - E.l. James Triumphs At National Book Awards

Author E.L. James' erotic bestseller Fifty Shades Of Grey has been named Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the U.K.'s National Book Awards.

The saucy smash hit, which is set for a Hollywood film adaptation, beat Victoria Hislop's The Thread, 1356 by Bernard Cornwell, The Rose Petal Beach by Dorothy Koomson, Kate Mosse's Citadel, and Me Before You by JoJo Moyes to claim the prestigious title on Tuesday (04Dec12), when the winners were announced at a ceremony in London.

J.K. Rowling missed out on the UK Author of the Year award to Hilary Mantel for Bring Up the Bodies, but it wasn't all bad for the Harry Potter writer - her first adult fiction work The Casual Vacancy was picked up for adaptation into a Bbc Tv series on Monday (03Dec12).

The Who rocker Pete Townshend also lost out at the event - his memoir, Who I Am, was overlooked in the Autobiography/Biography of the Year category in favour of U.K. sportscaster Clair Balding's My Animals and Other Family.

There was good news for British comedian David Walliams - he emerged victorious in the Children's Book of the Year group for his novel Ratburger, while crime writer Ian Rankin was presented with a special Outstanding Achievement Award for his hugely successful career.
