Duran Duran - Duran Duran Announced For Olympics Gig, To General Disappointment

Duran Duran have been announced to headline the forthcoming London Olympics concert. It's been a bit of a farce from day one, and with the Olympic organisers at one point attempting to ask The Who - including the long deceased Keith Moon - if they'd like to participate in one of the concerts, the omens weren't good. Now the organisers are coming under fire again after announcing that 80s pop group Duran Duran will be playing an outdoor gig in the UK capital's Hyde Park to open the festivities.
The ingenious plan by those in charge will see Simon Le Bon et al represent England, with each home nation getting its own representative. For Scotland, Paulo Nutini will be donning the St. Andrews flag, whilst meat and potatoes rockers Stereophonics will be representing Wales. Completing a line-up of startling mundanity are Snow Patrol, who will attempt to do Ireland proud by way of performing their gently weeping indie ballads to thousands of post-work suits.
Speaking to Itv News, Duran Duran's Le Bon said "Performing to so many people on the most exciting day in sport for Great Britain will be one of the highlights of the last decade for us. We have been invited to represent England for this Team GB show, and we couldn't be more proud. Seeing the torch being lit on the big screens before hitting the stage in this iconic location will be a great experience. We simply can't wait." Maybe Le Bon, maybe, but judging by grumblings on Twitter, the crowd very much can.
