Duffy - Duffy Flees Fire At London Home
Welsh soul singer Duffy was forced to flee her London home on Wednesday night (03Oct12) when a massive fire broke out in the building.
The Mercy hitmaker was led out of the luxury apartment block in Kensington, south-west London and appeared to be in distress as she searched for her missing cat while firefighters tackled the blaze at the 10-storey block, according to London's Evening Standard newspaper.
Duffy had to be calmed by police officers and she eventually found her pet underneath a van on the roadside.
More than 60 firefighters spent over six hours tackling the flames and around 20 other residents were also ordered to evacuate.
Rassa Borghei, 58, a resident of the fifth floor, says, "I went to the kitchen window and I saw a lot of smoke. I told my sister and my son, 'Let's leave.' I saw Duffy running outside. She was running about all over the place. When the police arrived they calmed her."
Fire service spokesman John Snelgrove says, "Thanks to the quick actions by our crews when they arrived we were able to contain the fire to the ninth floor penthouse flat and the roof of the building. Around 20 people were evacuated from the block but thankfully there were no injuries.
"Because of the complicated lay out of the structure crews are working in firefighters are likely to remain at the scene for some time today (04Oct12) as they continue to damp down and extinguish any small pockets of fire which still remain."
