Driver's Yoko 'Blackmail' Letter Heard In Court
LATEST: Yoko Ono's former driver was not trying to blackmail the widow of John Lennon but was seeking compensation for years of sexual harassment when he asked for $2 million (GBP1.03 million), according to court documents.
A lawyer acting for chauffeur KORAL KARSAN filed the alleged blackmail letter the 50-year-old sent Ono last month (DEC06) as evidence in a New York City court on Tuesday (09JAN06).
Defence attorney ROBERT GOTTLIEB told the hearing the letter proves his client was seeking compensation.
In it, Karsan tells Ono he has decided to sue her for sexual harassment before going on to demand she hand over $2 million or he would make public material that "will astound the world".
Among the material Karsan claimed to have in the letter is a tape of Ono and Lennon's son SEAN calling his late father a "wife-beating a**hole", and evidence of Ono's critical remarks about her "son, daughter, THE Beatles and your friends" including Rolling Stone publisher Jan Wenner and JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASSIS.
Karsan describes himself as Ono's "lover and confidant" over the course of a decade-long " very emotional and physical" relationship.
Karsan, who was arrested on 13 December (06), could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of blackmail.
