Drew Barrymore Topples Will Ferrell As 'Most Overpaid' Star

Drew Barrymore has been given the undesirable tag of the most overpaid star in Hollywood, toppling last year's No.1, comedic actor Will Ferrell. Forbes magazine found Barrymore pulled in just 40 cents at the box office, for every $1 spent on the movies she starred in.

The actress topped the list after dismal box office returns for her 2010 romantic comedy 'Going the Distance', which took just $17.8 million after a reported budget of $32 million. Her movies 'Everybody's Fine' and 'Whip It' fared even worse, despite the latter being positively reviewed and gaining numerous nominations. Ferrell has famously topped the list for the last two years, with his movies The Land of the Lost and The Other Guys tarnishing his earlier hits such as Anchorman. The funny-man will be pleased to know he's now dropped to third on the list, with Oscars-host Eddie Murphy taking second place. For every $1 he was paid for family comedies 'Meet Dave' and 'Imagine That', Murphy returned just $2.70. However, the actor is thought to be returning to form and his latest movie 'Tower Heist' is expected to top the box-office this weekend. Other notable stars on this year's list include Reese Witherspoon and Denzel Washington, taking fourth and fifth places respectively. Nicholas Cage took sixth spot, while somewhat surprisingly Adam Sandler took seventh.

Barrymore will be hoping her forthcoming romantic-drama Big Miracle will be enough to see her escape the list next year. The movie follows a small-town news reporter who recruits his ex-girlfriend to save a family of grey whales trapped by rapidly forming ice in the Arctic circle.
