Dr Laura To End Radio Show

18 August 2010
Dr Laura Schlessinger - the hard-nosed radio host who's been dishing out relationship advice to her callers for three decades - is set to end her show. The news comes after Schlessinger came under fire for using a racial slur on the talk show. During a conversation with a caller about racism, she used the 'N' word a total of 11 times, and despite apologising, Schlessinger refused to let the controversy simmer in an interview with Larry King on Tuesday 17th August 2010, stating, "It's time to move on to other venues where I could say my piece and not have to live in fear anymore that sponsors and their families are going to be upset". She also confirmed that her show would come to an end once her contract expires at the end of the year.

Despite radio being her forte, the host has briefly flirted with television, and is the author of numerous self-help books. In 2007, she was awarded an Exceptional Public Service award by the Office of the US Secretary of Education, and in 2002, Talkers radio magazine named her the seventh greatest radio talk-show host of all time.

However, she told King that the curtain will soon fall on her radio broadcasting career, adding, "When I started in radio, when you said something that somebody disagreed with or they didn't like, they argued with you. Now they try to silence you. I was wrong and I apologized. But there are people who won't accept my apology".

or has recently battled a number of health problems. In 2002, she was involved in a car crash that left her needing continued physical therapy, and in 2005, she suffered a stroke.

Poor Dr. Laura: She doesn't understand why anyone could be angry in the slightest. Philosophically, there is this thing called "cause and effect". Maybe being hateful towards groups of people that don't align their beliefs with hers is a possibility! I don't agree with those who want to take rights away from others; because they have the right to say what they want. When anyone has to prove their point by being "the know-it-all and end-all" you can bet, your ego will be attacked. Hey Laura, how about being willing to use your relationship expertise on yourself!?! Just a thought.
