Donna Summer Family Planning Private Memorial Only
Donna Summer 's family are planning a memorial limited to family and close friends of the late singer. According to New York Daily News today, Donna's husband, songwriter Bruce Sudano, released a statement today (May 18, 2012), via her publicist Brian Edwards, saying "On behalf of the Sudano family, the overwhelming outreach from the media, fans and friends alike has been most truly appreciated. The services being planned will be private to include only family and close friends. Thank you for continuing to respect the family's privacy during their time of loss."
The family have appealed for privacy in mourning Donna, who passed away yesterday, after battling with cancer. She had managed to keep the 10 month struggle with lung cancer a secret from all but her closest friends and family. Today's statement contradicts an earlier report, which suggested that a public memorial had been planed for Donna, on May 23rd in Nashville. Yesterday, fans left flowers on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where she had her own star. By this morning, three of her albums had risen to the Top 20 on iTunes.
Stars have begun paying tribute to Summer. Elton John told E! News "This woman was the queen of disco and so much more. That she has never been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a total disgrace."
