Donatella Versace - Donatella Versace compares J.W. Anderson to Gianni Versace

Donatella Versace has compared J.W. Anderson to her late brother Gianni Versace.

The fashion mogul is so impressed with the British designer's capsule collection for diffusion line Versace Versus that she has paid him the ultimate compliment by likening his risk-tasking spirit to that of the label's founder, Gianni Versace, who was tragically killed in 1997.

She said: ''[J.W. Anderson] is not afraid to dare, he is not afraid to provoke. He's not afraid of a mistake. It's very like my brother - if you criticise less, you're safe. I hate that word. I hate that way of thinking.

''What's different about Jonathan is that he thinks about the marketing, the buying. He sees everything together - the provocative, the daring, but also how they'll wear it.''

Anderson's clothing collection features 31 looks for both men and women which combine his androgynous aesthetic with the rock 'n' roll spirit of Versus, at more moderate prices than Versace's usual creations.

He added to WWD: ''Unisex is the most modern thing that a lot of people do not touch on.

''The whole collection has to feel jarred. I think there's a sharpness of the bridging of the [sexes].

''When something is ugly and wrong, I feel that it's right. You're not used to it.''

Lady Gaga Startling Unedited Versace Ad Snaps Leaked 4158429 News

Lady Gaga has become the latest celebrity to find themselves in the middle of the ongoing Photoshop debate after un-retouched photos from the pop singer's new Versace campaign leaked online. As the new face of the Italian high fashion brand, Gaga features in numerous photos for the extensive new ad campaign, modelling clothes and accessories.

Un-Edited Photos From Lady Gaga's Versace Ad Campaign Have Surfaced Online.

Gaga doesn't exactly look terrible in the unedited snaps but that very fact alone has cause fans and feminist sites to criticise the heavy Photoshop editing that saw the 'Artpop' singer dramatically changed. The star was digitally given a lot more make up than she appeared to be wearing in the original shots and even had her hair changed from a straw blonde to a more platinum shade.

The original photos show the singer's bruised knees which disappear along with the dark circles under her eyes in the brand's final shots. Gaga hasn't commented on the leaked images yet but the 28 year-old performer has spoken out against the use of Photoshop in the past.

Jezebel published the full set of photos, final and un-edited, and discussed the blatant use of Photoshop in the sultry new campaign. "The finalized images look like they've been color corrected and that the contrast has been upped considerably to give them that glossy Versace feel. Gaga's makeup and wig have also been punched up and some bruising on her knees was removed. Her arms appear slimmer in the final product," the feminist site notes.

Selena Gomez starstruck meeting Donatella Versace 3984075 News

Selena Gomez claims meeting Donatella Versace was her ''Princess Diaries moment.''

The singer and actress attended her first Fashion Week show in Milan earlier this year and admits she was starstruck when she was given the opportunity to meet one of her fashion icons.

Selena told Teen VOGUE Magazine: ''It was surreal because I got to geek out instead of having to be very pristine. It was my total 'Princess Diaries' moment.''

The 21-year-old 'Spring Breakers' actress claims she makes her own decisions on what to wear to red carpet events and Donatella is one of her favourites.

She said: ''I've always been an Italian girl - Dolce & Gabbana and Versace. They capture the body really well. And I love Marchesa.''

Selena has her own fashion line for American discount store K Mart and has also designed for adidas' Neo range.

She explained: ''It's been really fun. They've been super open to letting me having a say, which isn't always the case. We made it edgier than my line, because I wanted it to be a little darker.

''It's stuff I'd wear; I'd rock those jeggings, for sure. And their beanies- I wanted every colour.''

Versace Collaboration With M.I.A. Takes Inspiration From The Bane Of The Fashion Industry - Brand Knock-Off 3895940 News

Two completely separate ends of the fashion spectrum merge in rapper M.I.A.’s soon-to-be released collection for Versus Versace. M.I.A collaborated with the streetwear brand on a collection of clothes, inspired by the knockoffs she used to wear on the streets of London. You know, before the record deals, mainstream success and legal battles with the NFL.

M.I.A., Paris Fashion Week Balenciaga Show
M.I.A has evolved her own unique style, largely influenced by the days before she reached mainstream success.

The collection features plenty of bright colors, bold patterns and baggy shapes and the marketing campaign looks to be just as aggressive as we’re used to seeing M.I.A. in her performances – which is just fine. In fact, it’s nice to know that the M.I.A. (real name Mathangi Arulpragasam) hasn’t lost the slightest bit of her edge.

M.I.A, Danforth Music Hall
This is the second Versace Versus collection.

"I love the energy of the street, so when M.I.A. suggested we use bootlegs of Versace, I thought it was such an incredible idea," Versace boss Donatella Versace said, via New York Daily News. "The collection is everything that I love about the new Versus Versace - it's fast, loud, unafraid, and brings together the worlds of music and fashion. I can't wait to see people wearing the collection." This is the second collection from the Versus sub-label, which puts the focus on outside talent and digital promotion. The brand’s debut was unveiled in May, when J W Anderson created a unisex runway collection, which debuted in New York City. The new collection will be released online and in selected Versace stores on October 16.

Rapper M.I.A Designs Collection for Versace's Versus Line 3895535 News

Grammy award-winning rapper M.I.A. has designed a collection for Versus, Versace's lower-priced line. The news was originally reported when the rapper told a WWD reporter at the Balenciaga show in Paris, though the fashion house chose not to make an official announcement, until now.

Unsurprisingly, the collection is based on M.I.A's signature look of brightly patterned trousers, hoodies and loud sunglasses. Versace says the line will include "graphic prints with street energy" and a motif of "gold medallions [that] are reminiscent of the frenzy typical of the (market) stands."

Referring to herself in the third person, the musician said of her line, "The theme of counterfeits, of those that produce and sell them has always been part of the culture of M.I.A. When I was contacted by Versace, it seemed a great idea to invert the circle. Versace's designs have always been copied, now it's Versace that copies the copies, so those that copy must copy the copies. So this will continue."

Donatella herself explained, "I adore the energy of the street, so when M.I.A. proposed to expose the issue of counterfeit Versace pieces by creating a collaboration inspired by these items, I thought it was an incredible idea . The collection represents all that I love of the new Versus Versace: it's fast, it's noisy, it's brazen and it blends the world of music with that of fashion. I can't wait to see it worn."

M.I.A's Versus line hits on October 16 - just in time for her album release on November 5, 2013.

In other news from Mathangi Arulpragasam, the NFL is still trying to sue her for flipping the bird at the Super Bowl show.

Celebrities And Socialites Attend Donatella's Showcase for Versace Versus Line 3669849 News

Versace lovers gathered en masse at Donatella Versace’s showcase at Lexington Avenue Armory Wednesday in New York for the new Versus line. The venue, appropriately dimmed for the edgy collection’s reveal, was filled to the brim with celebrities and assorted socialites, Women’s Wear Daily reports. Darren Criss, Theophilus London, Jaime King, Hayden Panettiere, Sky Ferreira and Heidi Klum were all among the chosen ones, lingering among models and scantily clad waiters and waitresses.

Rocker and former Gossip Girl star Taylor Momsen was also present, supporting one of her go-to brands when it comes to clothes. Momsen’s trademark heavy eyeliner and unkempt bleach blond tresses fit right in with the edgy theme of the party. “You can’t go wrong with Versace,” said Momsen for WWD “They always have a bit of a rock ’n’ roll edge.”

That they do and the capsule collection, separated into three groups – all black, colorful knits and all black – didn’t disappoint on that front. The show was punctuated by performances from rapper Angel Haze, followed by L.A. rockers Dead Sara and finally Canadian electropop prodigy Grimes in the breaks between the three sections. Grimes in particular has been a Versace darling lately, so it’s no surprise that she was also featured in the show. As for the clothes, it’s what you might expect from a 2013 summer collection – crop tops abound, along with straps on everything and strategically selected bold accessories. It was a good time for everyone involved, except maybe Lady Gaga, who, after her arrival, spent the night observing from the secluded mezzanine.

Donatella Versace's fashion advice 3485400 News

Donatella Versace says to succeed as a fashion designer you need to have ''passion and personal vision''.

The blonde fashionista - who took over the Versace fashion house after brother Gianni was shot dead in 1997 - is judging the International Woolmark Prize next week and she knows exactly what she is looking for.

She added vogue.co.uk: ''That's what makes a great designer. It's something that my brother Gianni understood absolutely, and the most important thing I learnt from him. You have to believe in what you are doing and you have to have your own style.''

Donatella will be joined on the panel by Victoria Beckham, Tim Blanks, Diane von Furstenberg to judge the coveted award - which was previously won by a young Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent - and Donatella can't wait to get to work.

She said: ''The judging panel is made up of people who really know their stuff, and who have a wealth of experience in different fields - design itself, but also fashion retail and journalism. It's an impressive group and I feel that we will all bring our own different perspectives to bear on the judging, which I think is important for the integrity of the competition. It also means that the young designers will get the benefit of many different informed points of view.''

Six designers will present collections, made using Merino wool, via a catwalk show at an intimate event staged next Saturday (16.02.13).

The winner will take home £65,000 and will see his or her collection stocked in leading worldwide stores.

Cindy Crawford Loves Husband's Confidence 3219334 News

Cindy Crawford finds her husband's confidence sexy.

The 46-year-old supermodel has been married to Rande Gerber - with who she has children Presley, 13, and 10-year-old Kaia - for 14 years and says she was first attracted to him because of how at ease he is with himself.

She said: ''One of the things that really attracted me to Rande is that he's very comfortable in his whole skin.''

Cindy also revealed she loves Rande's sense of humour.

She told Tatler magazine: ''My husband is really funny. Not the class clown, but once in a while he says something that will really make me laugh.''

Cindy's daughter recently made her modelling debut for Donatella Versace and the stunning star admits Kaia quickly learned modeling isn't always as glamorous as it seems.

She said: ''I knew she'd be taken care of because it was Donatella. I didn't want her to have make-up or be photographed looking older than she is.

''It was a long day and she had to wait around in a trailer and I don't think she thought it was that much fun.''

However, Cindy insists she would never stop Kaia if she decides she wants to pursue a modelling career.

She added: ''I'd feel like a hypocrite. I've had so many opportunities and great experiences I couldn't possible forbid her.''

Allegra Beck Recalls Gianni Versace's Death 2539507 News

Versace heiress Allegra Beck "lived in the dark" when her uncle, Gianni Versace, was murdered in 1997.

The 25 year old - daughter of Gianni's sister Donatella Versace and Paul Beck - was extremely close to the legendary designer and says her life was shattered when he was shot dead outside his Miami home.

Allegra - who inherited 50 per cent of the Versace empire when she turned 18 - told La Repubblica: "For years I lived in the dark. I remembered little of my life before that terrible day. I even forgot what he looked like, and everything I felt about him.

"Then little by little the memories came back... emotions, flashes of happiness, and I was finally free of the emptiness that scared me so much."

Allegra is proud of how uncle left his mark on the fashion world and says there's no designer will ever be able to rival him.

She said: "My uncle did not work, the job was his life... I do not think that today there is anybody like him - he was unique."

Speaking of her brother's decision to leave such a large portion of the family firm to Allegra, Donatella has previously said: "My children were his children."
