Dolly Parton Planning New Broadway Musical
The veteran singer previously worked on the score for the stage adaptation of her 1980 film 9 to 5, and the show, titled 9 to 5: The Musical, opened in Los Angeles before transferring to New York in 2009.
However, it struggled to win over audiences and closed after just 17 weeks of performances.
But the Broadway failure has not put Parton off the idea of working on a big stage production and she is hoping to find a small role for herself in her upcoming project.
She tells WENN, "I'm writing my life story as a musical for Broadway. I probably won't be in it but I'll find a way to introduce it somehow, maybe the older me.
"9 to 5 (the musical) didn't make it (wasn't a success) on Broadway but it didn't sour me. I learned all this stuff from it."
And Parton already has her sights set on another film she'd like to adapt for the stage - her new movie with Queen Latifah.
She adds, "Joyful Noise would make a great Broadway show so maybe I'll write music for that!"
