Dizzee And Winehouse Lead Mobo Hunt

by | 19 September 2007

Dizzee Rascal and Amy Winehouse will be leading the hunt for Mobo awards tonight after both being nominated in four categories.

East London rapper Dizzee has been put up for best UK male, best song, best video and best R&B, while Winehouse is nominated in the same categories, albeit the best female rather than male artist.

Winehouse, who has been in the headlines in relation to her reported drug use for much of the summer, is slated to appear at the show, but it is not yet certain whether she will show up.

But one artist who definitely will not be at the O2 Arena in south-east London tonight is US rapper 50 Cent, who has pulled the plug on his European tour.

Fiddy said this summer that if his new album, Curtis, was outsold by rival Kanye West – who's Graduation record was released on the same day – then he would retire and it appears he may be sticking to his word.

"We have just been informed that 50 Cent has cancelled his European tour which included visits to France, Germany and the UK - no further details have been given," a statement by the awards' organisers read.

"We apologise to fans for this decision beyond our control and assure you that this Mobo awards show at the O2 Arena is going to be a very memorable event with a fantastic lineup."

R&B artists Jamelia and Shaggy will host the event, which is due to feature performances from Ne-yo, Robin Thicke, Mutya Buena, Craig David and Kano.

Guest presenters set to appear include film director Quentin Tarantino, England cricketer Monty Panesar and Manchester City and England footballer Micah Richards.

The awards aim to recognise music of black origin, but are not restricted to any particular race.
