Disney Delay Disney Infinity Until August

Those anticipating Disney’s ambitious Disney Infinity game will have to hold out their slavering excitement for that bit longer after it was announced that the release was being put back from its original June release date to one on August 18, 2013 in the US with it being launched overseas two days later.

Disney Interactive is under huge pressure to turn a profit this year; though the last quarter saw them turn a $9 million profit, it came off the back of 16 successive quarterly losses and the intentions of the company have been made clear recently that they need to start turning the red into black. Infinity is one such game they’re hoping will aid them in their re-galvanization, but its move from June to August means it will be put out in the third quarter of the year and not second, meaning the company has no big game to come out during this period. “The date became an issue in terms of them asking, ‘Is there a better opportunity here?’” John Pleasants, co-President of Disney Interactive said, according to The New York Times.

“We could deliver in June if we wanted to,” he said, adding: “Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops.” Hopefully those bells and whistles will make up for the extra wait fans will have to make for the game, which will – in a model similar to that used time and time again by Nintendo – will see an army of Disney’s various well known characters come together in one big adventure platform game.
