Disney Claims U.k. Company Is Knocking Off Its Titles
Disney has demanded that a British production company, Brightspark Production Ltd., stop selling DVDs with covers that may mislead consumers to believe that they are buying Disney productions. Some consumers have complained that the films inside the DVD boxes bear little relation to the cover artwork. Among Brightspark's titles Braver , similar to Disney's Brave ; Tangled Up , similar to Disney's Tangled ; The Frog Princess , similar to Disney's The Princess and the Frog ; and Little Cars , similar to Disney's Cars. Britain's Guardian newspaper reported today (Thursday) that the titles are widely available at leading supermarket chains and online for £3 (about $4.50). Disney said in a statement "People place great trust in the quality and creativity of Disney, and when it appears that another company is causing confusion among Disney consumers we will act to protect ourselves and the consumer. Disney believes Brightspark has demonstrated a pattern of misleading consumers with numerous releases that confuse and undermine the trust those consumers have in Disney."
