DISH Network Chairman Charlie Ergen is trying a new tactic in his effort to compete with cable networks that are able to bundle wireless telephone services with video. After failing in his attempt to acquire Sprint and Clearwire and attempting to form a complicated partnership with T-Mobile, Ergen has launched a $2.2-billion Stalking Horse bid for control of LightSquared's spectrum, which he hopes to convert into a nationwide 4G wireless network. To do so, he'll have to negotiate numerous hurdles, not the least of which is the fact that LightSquared's spectrum has been found to interfere with a nearby spectrum that is used by farmers and the military.
