Dicaprio Raises Fortune For Haiti
The Hollywood heart-throb was at an auction for Sean Penn's Haiti charity as part of the Cannes Film Festival in France this week (begs16May11) when he became frustrated at the slow pace of the bidding.
So in a bid to kickstart some large donations, DiCaprio leaped onstage, grabbed a microphone, and told the audience he will hand $70,000 of his own cash to the cause, according to New York Post gossip column Page Six.
And DiCaprio's philanthropic efforts didn't end there - he publicly called on millionaire movie boss Weinstein and Russian businessman Doronin to match his bid, and they both agreed.
The auction eventually raised more than $1 million (£625,000) for Penn's JP Haitian Relief Organization, which provides cash for aid efforts following the devastating earthquake that hit the country last year (10).
