Diane Cilento - Diane Cilento, Actress And Ex-wife Of Sean Connery, Dies Aged 7807 October 2011
Cilento first gained fame in the 1950's and 1960's after starring opposite the likes of Paul Newman and Charlton Heston in a series of high profile movies. In 1963, she received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in 'Tom Jones', eventually losing out to Margaret Rutherford. Her fame grew spectacularly after she married James Bond actor Connery, but the couple divorced after eleven years having had one child together. She later married her third husband, the playwright Anthony Shaffer. Queensland Premier Anna Blight paid tribute to the actress, saying, "While she was originally known as a glamorous international film star, her work in later years in the far north showed her commitment to the arts. I know that Ms. Cilento will be sorely missed by many in the industry".
Cilento, who also starred in the classic horror movie 'The Wicker Man', made her final big screen appearance in 'The Boy Who Had Everything' in 1984.
