Desperate Housewives Star Learnt Of Cancellation Via Email
On Sunday, ABC confirmed speculation the upcoming series of the show would be its last. Premiering as a prime-time comedy-drama in 2004, the show drew huge audiences thanks to its all-star cast which included Huffman, Teri Hatcher and Eva Longoria. However, in recent years the program has suffered from declining ratings, and a number of farfetched storylines appear to have turned off viewers. Huffman claims to have shed a few tears upon hearing the news, but claims her 9-year-old daughter entered the room and told her, "It's OK, mama. You'll work again". Marcia Cross, who plays the comically neurotic 'Bree', said she hadn't meant to break the news via email, saying, "Felicity is always on top of everything, while I'm usually four steps behind. It didn't occur to me that she didn't already know".
The show's eighth and final season will premiere on 25th September 2011. Season seven pulled in an average 11 million viewers - less than half the audience for the first two seasons.
