Dennis Rodman - Dennis Rodman Says He Doesn't Deserve Tribute

Dennis Rodman claims he doesn't deserve the tribute that he is scheduled to receive in Detroit tonight (1st April 2011).
Dennis Rodman, the former Nba star turned television personality, says he doesn't think his famous No. 10 jersey should be retired because he wasn't the most important member of the championship winning Detroit Pistons team, reports the Detroit Free Press.Rodman is set to see his No. 10 jersey retired during the halftime show when the Pistons take on the Chicago Bulls at 'The Palace' tonight. Speaking ahead of the tribute, the 49-year-old said, "I thought it was an April Fools' joke when they called me about it the first time. I was shocked. I don't think I should have my jersey retired because I was probably the fifth most important guy on those teams". Rodman admitted that it will be "very emotional" walking back into the famous venue for "the first time in years" and added, "I was little nervous about coming back at first. But it's great seeing everybody". As well as his record breaking career at the Pistons, Rodman also played for the San Antonio Spurs, the Chicago Bulls, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Dallas Mavericks, Orange County Crush, the Tijuana Dragons and in England for the Brighton Bears.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Dennis Rodman has been ordered to pay more than $42,000 in back taxes to the State of California.

I would like to see Rodman's jersey be retired in Chicago. Rodman was essential in the Bull's back-to-back-to-back Championships in the mid to late 90's. His defense and rebounding skills were outstanding. I'm glad to see at least one team recognize his outstanding skills.

Why add that last sentence/paragraph? Did every story about then-President Bush end with "Several years ago, President Bush was arrested for driving while intoxicated"? Such negativity and sensationalism does not a respectable publication make. Then again, what exactly is "contactmusic"?

Detroit Pistons do not win titles without Rodman. He guarded all five positions on the floor and allowed Thomas, Dumars and Laimbeer to score. Rodman does not receive the credit he deserves as a basketball player because of Hollywood antics. I was not a Piston's fan but he was definately a talent and deserving of recognition from the Piston's.

Dennis Rodman is one of the greatest rebounders of all time. I was a BIG Detroit Piston fan back in the day and I believe he does deserve this honor. You can say what you will about his personal life, but that doesn't take away from his genius on the court.

As someone already mentioned, where in the world does the last sentence fit in the entire article of Rodman's accomplishments on the court? Typical of many modern writer's, always wanting to add some kind of drama. Anyway, the reality is that D-Rod was a rebounding machine, something that has not been seen in any player of any team since his days. Therefore, the question is not "does he deserve this honor," the true question is "why did they wait this long?"

Dennis are you kidding me? You, Michael, & Scotty (& Phil) WERE that team! I've NEVER seen anyone that consistantly rebounded like you did! I always say they should sit the kids down and have them watch tape of your rebounding style. You were amazing and every rebound is a potential 2-3 points that you don't have a chance of getting otherwise! I LOVED watching you play! You're a clinic in defense, all by yourself! You're G-R-E-A-T! 9 years top rebounder in the NBA and never awarded because you were flamboyant, who cares? your life's your own off the court, on the court, you were a Champion! Yes, you deserve any and all acknowledgment they'll finally give you. You're shy, but get up there and accept your reward. a fan of yours!

I have always been a huge fan of Dennis Rodman/NBA Ballplayer. He is the NBA's leading Rebounder of all-times. Although off the court he has had his share of "Bad PR Moments" this recognition/reward is about Rodman the NBA Superstar. I agree with Dennis when he says "there are other Detroit Pistons due this acknowledgement i disagree when he says that he is not one of them. What's next ?? NBA HALL OF FAME!!
