Del Toro Confident The Hobbit Will Be Made

GUILLERMO DEL TORO is confident the troubled LORD OF THE RINGS prequel THE HOBBIT will eventually be made - despite his decision to quit as the project's director.
The Hellboy auteur had signed up to shoot the fantasy film, based on J.R.R. Tolkien's first book, but he pulled out last month (May10) because of the ongoing delays.
The Hobbit has been thrown into jeopardy due to ongoing financial problems at MGM Studios, which was put up for sale in 2009 after falling heavily into debt.
But Del Toro, who will stay on to contribute as a screenwriter, has assured fans he will do everything in his power to ensure the movie is brought to the big screen.
In an internet statement, Del Toro writes, "I believe these films will happen. Preproduction continues as we speak. The writing team... and myself will keep moving the screenplays forward.
"Perhaps even sooner than we may anticipate we will all look at the finished film and then, I will tear up whenever I recognise a set or a creature or a quirk created under my supervision."
