De Niro An Irish-american?
Italian-American legend Robert De Niro has shocked fans - by revealing his Irish family roots.
The Goodfellas star admits he knows little of his Gaelic ancestors' history, but he's now planning to research his family tree in Ireland.
He says, "I'm trying to do that now, as a matter of fact. I'm going to do that soon."
Recalling a trip to Ireland in 1962, aged 19, De Niro adds, "I hitchhiked from Dublin to Galway and took the ferry out to the Aran Islands, and then I went down through the south.
"People gave me blankets for sleeping outside and I had breakfast with them in the morning. They were very friendly."
