Dawn Richard - Dawn Richard: 'Diddy-dirty Money Chapter Is Over'
Singer Dawn Richard has no plans to reunite with rap mogul Sean Combs and head into the studio to make music as Diddy-dirty Money anytime soon, insisting "that chapter is closed".
The former Danity Kane star joined forces with Combs and singer/songwriter Kalenna Harper in 2009 to form the hip-hop trio and they scored chart success with their album Last Train To Paris.
But Richard has since left the rapper's Bad Boy Records and launched herself as a solo artist with her new EP Armor On - although she insists there are no hard feelings between her and her former mentor.
She tells WENN, "I'm always that (part of Diddy-Dirty Money) at heart because it was an amazing experience but you know, I think that chapter is closed. Whenever it opens, I'm always there because I love what we've done, with both groups that I've been a part of, but I think those chapters are closed and it's all about my solo career now."
Richard admits Combs tried to find a way to keep her on his roster of artists at Bad Boy, but when she asked to be released from her contract in December (11), he was more than accommodating.
She says, "I went to Puff (Combs) and I talked to him... He said he definitely sees me as a solo artist but as far as label and timing he didn't know how soon he could get me out (release her own solo material) and he said, 'I know you, and you probably don't wanna wait.' He understood that...
"I asked him if I could be released so that I had the opportunity to do the sound that I wanted and he so graciously let me go and because of that I'll forever love him and be grateful for it."
