Upon learning of his friend's death, Edmondson responded in a way Mayall would have surely appreciated: "There were times when Rik and I were writing together when we almost died laughing,' Edmondson, 57, said. "They were some of the most carefree stupid days I ever had, and I feel privileged to have shared them with him. And now he's died for real. Without me. Selfish b******."

Dawn French Is Married Again, Weds At Cornwall Hotel 3620941 News

Dawn French – best known for her role in The Vicar of Dibley – has married for the second time. She tied the knot with charity worker Mr Bignell at the Scarlet hotel near Newquay at the weekend.

The wedding is reported to have taken place in Fowey Hall, which is described on its website as "one of the most impressive family hotels in Cornwall" and "sophisticated yet uncomplicated, luxurious yet laid back, grand yet comfy". This is, of course, French’s second husband after her high profile relationship with fellow comedian Lenny Henry. Unlike many breakups, theirs was amicable, and Henry didn’t get a feel for Premier Inns while married to French. "Those last few months were pretty much like the first few months; we were good friends," she said, speaking on Radio 4's Desert Islands Discs last year. "It was a tribute to the way we'd been married, the way we accomplished it.

Dawn FrenchDon't worry, this isn't Dawn French's wedding

French is set to star in James Corden and Mathew Baynton’s new comedy, The Wrong Mans. Baynton previously told the BBC: "James and I dreamt up The Wrong Mans during a break on the set of Gavin And Stacey four years ago." Executive producer Mark Freeland revealed: "We are trying to do a comedy with explosions, a lot of running about, murder, extortion, friendship and love. I cannot wait. But I'm glad I'm not doing the running about bit." There is no date for the comedy yet, but it will be broadcast on the BBC and the Hulu online streaming service.

Dawn French Marries New Beau Mark Bignell 3620484 News

Dawn French has married her partner Mark Bignell at a lavish eco-hotel, with Alison Moyet providing entertainment for the guests. The comedienne has been dating Bignell for just over a year, following the break-up of her marriage to fellow comedian Lenny Henry three years ago. The ceremony took place at hotel on the Cornish coast, The Daily Mail reports and guests included the screenwriter Richard Curtis, as well as Jennifer Saunders, Sue Perkins and Kathy Burke.

Scarlet Hotel, near Newquay, played host to the happy couple and their guests and the 37 bedrooms were reportedly decorated with custom-made floral jam jar arrangements of Lily of the valley and peonies. After the ceremony, the guests attended a firework display on the beach in the evening. A source told the newspaper “The wedding was up in the lounge with the white leather seats, looking out over the water. At about 9.30pm everyone went outside and watched fireworks from the hotel. They were on the beach below, big shells that went up to 400ft high in all different colours. Inside in the hotel garden there was a red heart, five foot wide and high, with the letters M and D in white in the heart. They all let off lanterns later. It was quite small – probably about 100 people there – but it was a proper celebrity wedding.”

French and Bignell began dating just over a year ago and the comedienne has claimed previously that he did not know who she was when they met. “I'm not boasting, but you'd actually have to have not watched television for the past 20 years to have avoided me, and he'd managed to do just that,” she joked.

Dawn French Breaks Down In Tears As She Talks About Mother's Death 3429603 News

Actress Dawn French broke down in tears during a candid interview as she discussed the death of her mother.

The Harry Potter star was left devastated in March (12) when her mother, Roma, passed away just days after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

French spoke about the tragedy during an appearance BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs show, which aired in the U.K. on Sunday (23Dec12).

The actress was asked to pick a number of songs to be featured in the programme and she chose At Last by Etta James, revealing the song was played at her mother's funeral and symbolised Roma's belief that after death, she would be reunited with French's father, who committed suicide when the star was just 19 years old.

French became emotional as she said, "When my mum was very poorly and knew she was dying, she said to me, 'Well, it’s win-win, isn’t it?' I said, 'How on earth can you say that, Mum? You’ve got terminal lung cancer' and she said, 'Well, either I stay here longer with you or I go and see your dad.' She absolutely believed that’s what she’d do. So we played this (At Last) at her funeral because at last she was with him."

Cheyne Denies Blame In Henry & French Split 1696073 News A woman who spent the night with LENNY HENRY 11 years ago has denied she is to blame for his split from wife DAWN FRENCH.
The Harry Potter funnywoman and her stand-up comic husband announced earlier this month (Apr10) that they have parted ways after 25 years of marriage.
Tabloid reports have accused Australian Merri Cheyne of breaking up the couple's relationship, insisting the night the blonde spent in a hotel room with Henry in 1999 was the catalyst for the split.
But Cheyne, who has denied having sex with Henry, insists she had nothing to do with their marriage breakdown.
The 37 year old says, "It is nothing to do with me. If it was, their marriage would have broken up back then. If what happened didn’t split them up then, why would it do so now? Why would they end their relationship for something like that?
"If I saw him now, I wouldn’t know whether to throw up or faint. It is such bad memories... and it does not go away. Whenever their names are mentioned, so is mine. I’ve had that for 11 years now."
The scandal and subsequent reports about other alleged infidelities sent the comedian/actor to rehab with depression issues - but Cheyne maintains it was her personal life and career that suffered.
She adds, "After the story broke, I took a real knock. I lost my job and my home. It was all a bit frightening. I have not laid eyes on him (since 1999). I haven’t heard a peep (from Henry). At the time, I was a bit angry and disappointed about that because he knew what it was like to be besieged by the press."
