Davis Awarded Additional Damages In Defamation Case
13 September 2008
The 53-year-old Australian native was awarded the sum in interest, following her $133,000 (GBP71,892) payout from the Sydney Daily Telegraph in July (08).
Davis, best known for her role in 1984's A Passage To India, sued the Telegraph after reporters implied her objection to new floodlights at a sporting park near her Sydney waterfront home was unreasonable.
Supreme Court judge Peter MCClellan said the paper "seriously misrepresented" the actress, adding, "The accusations that she was unreasonable and selfish and heartless with respect to young children inevitably caused her great anguish."
