David Cassidy Pays Tribute To Late Pal Davy Jones At New York Gig

Seventies pop icon David Cassidy broke down during a show in New York on Thursday night (19Jul12) as he paid tribute to late pal Davy Jones.

The former Partridge Family star was planning a co-headlining tour with The Monkees frontman when Jones died in February (12) and he's still struggling to get over the loss.

Cassidy halted his show at B.B. Kings before performing solo renditions of Monkees hits I'm A Believer and Daydream Believer and offered fans a tribute to the singer.

Overcome with emotion, the star said, "I'm gonna take you on a journey through my life; musical life and personal life and talk about some friends of mine. One of them who recently passed away became a very good friend of mine in the last five years. We were scheduled to do a show together a couple of weeks after he passed away and left us. But he left us and me, as a teenager, with a lot of great memories.

"I want to dedicate this one to him, being a big fan of his and theirs (The Monkees)."

Before he began Daydream Believer he introduced his lead guitarist, adding, "Quite an interesting fact that some of you may know or may not, Dave (Robicheau) recently joined the band and prior to that he played with Davy Jones and The Monkees for 14 years."

When I last saw Davy, I asked him about David. According to him, he wasn't the "close friend" David purports himself to be. They worked together while on tour. Davy was a sweet, lovely guy who had no choice but to suffer with him. David's crying for David leaves little to be desired. It should never be forgotten that he is an actor, afterall.

After he screwed up the tribute he did to Jones in Vegas, forgetting the words to songs and yelling at and insulting the audience, it's the least Cassidy could have done to rectify that especially at B.B. King's where our Davy also played many times and where his memorial show was held in March. He should be ashamed at how he messed up Davy's songs in Vegas Just google "Cassidy's testiness prompts walkout" and you will read article at Las Vegas Review Journal. I bet Davy didn't think of Cassidy as a close friend.
