David Bowie's Days On Stage Are No More, Or Are They?

David Bowie made a triumphant return back to the music scene on his 66th birthday earlier this week, releasing a new single/video for 'Where Are We Now?' and the details on his upcoming album The Next Day, but it has been made quite clear that he won't be making a return to the stage anytime soon.

However, Bowie's reserve may be tested as the pressure on him to take to the stage for the first time in over six years mounts with the impending release of his 24th solo record, his first since 2003's Reality. His long-time collaborator and producer on The Next Day, Tony Visconti let fans down in a recent interview with NME, saying that there is no way that Bowie will be back on stage in the near future, or at all for that matter. He said: "He’s fairly adamant he’s never gonna perform live again."

However Visconti took to Twitter yesterday to clear up the interview, writing that he wasn't implying that Bowie has given up touring for good - he just won't be touring for this album. Guitarist Earl Slick later added fuel to the 'return of Bowie' fire during an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, saying that the singer's group would love to take the new material on the road, even if it was just for a short tour. Slick told the magazine: “The band would love to go out. Even if it’s not a huge tour, we would like to go out and do some gigs.”

The Next Day is set for release on March 11 and his new single, 'Where Are We Now?', was released on Tuesday (Jan 8) when it shot almost immediately to the top of the iTunes chart.
