David Beckham's Advice Helped Tom Daley To Diving Bronze
David Beckham was never, to our knowledge, a diver - no, not even during his football career - but that hasn't stopped the 37 year-old passing on advice to young Tom Daley apparently. The 18 year-old, newly anointed Olympic Games bronze medallist, has told newspaper The Sun that Becks was passing on words of wisdom before he contested the individual men's 10 metre platform dive final. Daley has had a rough time of it, losing his father to cancer, and having to cope with the huge pressure of being one of the faces of the games, despite his young age. However, he managed to put initial disappointment in the synchronized diving event behind him to bounce back with (little) splash to take a medal - and some of that was down to Golden Balls.
"He wanted to wish me well and to say keep your chin up," Tom said. "David was asking how I've been feeling, giving me advice about what to take out of the synchro. He was kind of asking me the right questions, telling me it's not that bad and that I can come back" he added. Wise words indeed! Handling your temperament translates across a great many events after all.
For Beckham, he's simply enjoyed being around the games the past two weeks, and was there to watch Daley clinch his bronze. Writing on Twitter, he wrote "Was great to catch up with TomDaleyOfficial after the event last night, so happy for him after the year he's been through".
