Dave Stewart Had To Beg Shy Songwriter To Join His New Group

06 July 2006
Former Eurythmics star Dave Stewart spent months convincing songwriter KARA DIOGUARDI to join his new concept group Platinum Weird because she was terrified of performing in front of people.
The pretty brunette has been a longtime friend of the British rocker, but had to be persuaded to be part of his latest project after spending years writing hits for Pink, Santana and Britney Spears.
She says, "I didn't want to do the project. I make great money, I have a great life. Being in front of people was my last, great fear.
"It took Dave months to convince me. Every day he'd call. It was like the boyfriend who loves you so much, but you're like, 'I don't like you.'"
The duo spent a year writing and recording an album and then set about marketing the project as if Platinum Weird was a forgotten 1970s rock group with a singer who mysteriously disappeared.
LOVE IS A STRANGER hitmaker Stewart explains, "Who is going to accept... someone like myself at the age I am, coming from another massive group, and someone who has been writing hits for other people? It's a very odd combination."
To promote the duo's debut, they shot a 40-minute rockumentary which features famous pals SIR Mick Jagger and SIR Elton John, claiming the fictitious group initially inspired them. ROCK LEGENDS: PLATINUM WEIRD aired last night (05JUL06) on VH1 in America.
