Danny Boyle - Danny Boyle Used Oscar To Help Him Get His Own Way Over Olympics Planning
Moviemaker Danny Boyle used his Oscar to get his own way when he was planning the London Olympics opening ceremony last year (12).
The Trainspotting director wasn't afraid to mention the trophy he received for Slumdog Millionaire to force members of the International Olympic Committee to follow his lead during tense planning meetings.
He tells Wenn, "It was very useful during the Olympics opening and a couple of times I hit people over the head with them... I was like, 'Alright, if you want to do it like that, I'm going to resign.' Then they go, 'Oh s**t! That would be in the newspapers - an Oscar winner has resigned and he's walked away and it's my fault... Oh, alright then!'
"You sort of get what you want, so you have to be shameless."
But otherwise, Boyle admits he is not the type of guy who puts his trophies on display: "I don't think about them a great deal because they slightly unbalance your life if you think about them too much. So I don't keep them on the shelf; I have them under the bed. You can't get up in the morning and that's the first thing you see."
